Jolly Jaunt for Special Olympics

This Saturday December 1, 2007 is a special day in Boston. This is the day that the “Jolly Jaunt” takes place in downtown. The Jolly Jaunt is a 5K fundraising run/walk for Special Olympics Massachusetts.

About Special Olympics

The mission of Special Olympics Massachusetts (SOMA) is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of well-coached Olympic-type sports for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Through successful experiences in sports, our athletes gain confidence and build positive self-images that go with them into their homes, classrooms, jobs and communities. In addition to athletic achievement, SOMA athletes use their strong spirits and dedication to help change public perceptions about intellectual disabilities. Comet McNaught has continued to brighten as it approaches the sun and it is now the brightest comet in 30 years. For observers in the northern Hemisphere, tonight is probably the best time to see it: Go outside this evening and face the sunset. A clear view of the western horizon is essential, because the comet hangs very low. As the twilight fades to black, it should become visible to the naked eye. Observers say it's a fantastic sight through binoculars.

In the days ahead, Comet McNaught will pass the sun and emerge in good position for southern hemisphere viewing later this month. Meanwhile, solar heating will continue to puff up the comet, causing it to brighten even more. It could become one of the brightest comets in centuries, visible even in daylit skies.

Хочется пить терпкий кофе и курить длинные сигареты. Стряхивать пепел постукивая длинным ярко красным ногтем по этой длинной коричневой сигарете. Сидеть за маленьким круглым столиком с вычурными железными ножками совсем одной. За столиком рядом с верандой... В короткой мини юбке, в туфлях на высоком каблуке. С идеальной прической и четким почти вечерним макияжем. Сидеть и смотреть на прохожих под моросящим осенним дождем. Кутающиеся пары. Она жмется к нему всем телом а он обнимает ее правой рукой, а в левой держит зонт. Большущий черный зонт с деревянным набалдашником на рукоятке. Смотреть на одиноких продрогших женщин в серых плащах с поясами на талии, опаздывающих куда то, устало надеющихся. На старика плавно плывущего из магазина в кепке, черном балахоне и калошах. Скудные покупки в сумке, походка шаркающая, ощущение излишней суеты вокруг него.
Сидеть и плыть в дыму длинных сигарет, в запахе остывающего терпкого кофе и мокрых газет. Кабак с красными стенами. Играет танго.
Хочу в такой Буэнос Айрес.

Жду его.

Dancing on tuesday

Yesterday was marked by a remarkable salsa lesson in Newton Center and then some really nice dancing with Marat.
The place came highly recommended for a reason. The lessons are challenging but you get your money's worth and more. The instructors really care about each single student, and give some extremely useful pointers - soon enough I will nail those double turns.
Marat is a very good dancer as it turned out, so it was a nice surprise. Somehow still I think it is a little weird... Caught myself thinking: "Two russians dancing salsa..." :)
